Man kills six, himself at birthday party in US

Colorado Springs Police confirm seven people are dead after a shooting at a mobile home subdivision on the southeast side of the city.

"The suspect, a boyfriend of one of the female victims, drove to the residence, walked inside and began shooting people at the party before taking his own life", the police said in a statement.

Several weeks ago, a gunman opened fire at a supermarket in Boulder, Colorado, killing 10 people.

These are the locations of mass shootings in the U.S.so far this year, as of April 16, 2021.

Perhaps the most infamous shooting in the state of Colorado came in 1999 two students went on a shooting spree at Columbine High School, killing 13 people before they took their own lives. The Aurora shooter is serving a life sentence.

Colorado Springs police chief Vince Niski said: "Words fall short to describe the tragedy that took place this morning".

Police brought children out of the trailer and put them into at least one patrol vehicle, she said, adding that the children were "crying hysterically".

No motive has been established for the shootings nor has the name of the gunman been released.

Police officers responded to a call at the Canterbury Mobile Home Park at approximately 12:18 local time (18:16 GMT).

The other officers face charges alleging they aided and abetted second-degree murder and manslaughter. Brandon Mitchell is one of 12 jurors who convicted Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd.

After that incident, as well as a mass shooting incident in Atlanta, President Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress issued a series of gun-control proposals, while the House of Representatives passed two gun background check laws. A small group of adults stood nearby, some of them audibly sobbing, along with a small child.

As the United States celebrates Mothers Day, Jared Polis, the governor of Colorado, called the killings "devastating".
