India sets another daily record with 346,786 coronavirus cases

The death toll increased to 1,86,920 with a record 2,263 new fatalities.

As per the union health ministry data, five states of the country, namely Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Gujarat and Kerala, contribute 54 percent of the cases.

Each day, the government reports more than 300,000 new infections, a world record, and India is now seeing more new infections than any other country by far, nearly half of all new cases in a global surge.

A total of 2,19,272 were discharged from various hospitals in the same duration.

With 2,19,838 recoveries in the last 24 hours, India's cumulative recoveries stand at 1,38,67,997 today. There are 28,13,658 active cases in India now.

A total of 1,86,920 deaths have been reported so far in the country including 62,479 from Maharashtra, 13,885 from Karnataka, 13,317 from Tamil Nadu, 13,193 from Delhi, 10,766 from West Bengal, 10,541 from Uttar Pradesh, 8,189 from Punjab and 7,541 from Andhra Pradesh.

The Central government on Monday said that all citizens above 18 years of age will be eligible to get vaccinated from 1 May.

The eligibility conditions for any health facility for registration as a CVC also remains unchanged. The case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.13 per cent, the data stated.

Stating the fact that a very high number of daily new Covid cases being reported for the past few days, the Centre said there is an urgent need for states to consider strict Covid management and control measures to bring the situation under control.
