Denver expected to replace Atlanta as MLB All-Star game city

Atlanta about Major League Baseball's decision to pull the 2021 All Star Game from Atlanta over the league's objection to a new Georgia voting law

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp on Tuesday blasted Major League Baseball's decision to pull the 2021 All-Star game from Atlanta over a new voting law and relocate the game to Colorado, which has some similar and even more restrictive voting laws.

Major League Baseball opted to move the game out of Atlanta due to voting laws passed in Georgia last month. Critics accused Georgia Republicans of attempting to suppress the minority vote in the state, despite the fact that the new Georgia law expands early voting for primary and general elections.

The mayor of Atlanta, Keisha Lance Bottoms, said she regretted but understood the decision and wrote that it could represent "the 1st of many dominoes to fall, until the unnecessary barriers put in place to restrict access to the ballot box are removed".

Three days after Rob Manfred announced he was pulling baseball's All-Star Game out of Atlanta, the blowback grew in intensity not only from outside the sport, but also from within.

According to the website of the Colorado secretary of state's office, Coloradans who choose to use a mail-in ballot "may need to provide a copy of your ID along with your mail ballot", if they have recently registered for the first time.

Province announces 'emergency brake shutdown' due to rise in COVID-19 cases
Ford said the measures are being taken as a result of the surge in COVID-19 case numbers and hospitalizations across Ontario. The lockdown will restrict indoor gatherings to only members of the same household, and outdoor gatherings to five people.

Kemp also called President Biden's appearance at the NCAA championship game in IN "so hypocritical" as the governor said the state is "the birthplace for the photo ID requirement".

The new Georgia law requires identification for in-person and all absentee voting.

Late Monday night it was announced that the midsummer classic would be moved to Denver's Coors Field - home of the National League Rockies - and as of late Tuesday afternoon the conservative lawmaker had yet to comment on the move or tell her constituents that the game is not welcome in her state. Almost 30% of the businesses in Atlanta are black-owned, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

A Georgia tourism official told CNN on Friday that MLB's decision to move its All-Star Game out of Georgia could have a $100 million economic impact on the state.
