Police say two victims reported in Frederick shooting; suspect is ‘down’

The gunman shot and injured two men in or near the business, then drove toward the base, which is about 10 minutes away, Lando said.

"The US Navy can confirm there was an active shooter incident at Fort Detrick, Maryland, involving US Navy sailors".

The Navy said on Twitter that the unidentified shooter was a Navy hospital corpsman.

The gunman, whom police have not identified, fled to nearby Fort Detrick military base.

According to Chief Lando, personnel on the base shot and killed the 38-year-old.

2 people shot, suspect ‘down’ in Maryland
Police in Frederick, Maryland say there are now two victims and one suspect is down in an active shooter situation. While Navy sailors were involved in the incident, the suspect was killed at the Fort Detrick Army base.

"Our number one priority is the safety of our people", said U.S. Army Garrison Fort Detrick Commander Col.

Citing police, The Baltimore Sun reported that both of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries in the shooting and were flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Talley said he made it about a half-mile into the installation before he was stopped at a parking lot. "There's no further threat to the Frederick city and Frederick County residents".

By early afternoon, the Nallin Farm gate at Fort Detrick through which the shooter entered remained closed and two officers were standing by. "But you always know, perhaps in the back of your mind, that that's just luck - that there isn't any reason why it couldn't happen here". The names and ages of the victims and the suspect were not immediately disclosed, the spokesman said.

Lando called the shootings "very tragic".
