United Kingdom records seven fatalities after AstraZeneca jab

Australia probes if blood clot case linked to AstraZeneca vaccine

"The risks of serious side effects remain very low, but safety is paramount and that is why TAGI and the TGA are continuing to do due diligence on this case", Kidd said, adding that further announcements would come next week.

The government has no plans to postpone the administering of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, despite reports of its side effects on recipients overseas, said Deputy Health Minister Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali.

But experts have stressed that no link has been proven - and the benefits of getting the vaccine far outweighed any risks, given the dangers posed by Covid.

British regulators have identified 30 cases of rare blood clots after the use of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, 25 more than the agency previously reported, after millions of doses were administered.

Concerns over the AstraZeneca vaccine have already prompted some countries including Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands to restrict its use to older people.

France and several other European countries resumed AstraZeneca vaccinations last month after briefly suspending the product over reports of blood clots in a small number of people who had the jab.

The Netherlands stopped vaccinations with AstraZeneca for people under the age of 60 after five new cases of thrombosis among women. "There is substantial uncertainty about the benefit of providing AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines to adults under 55 given the potential risks", Canada's National Advisory Committee on Immunization said.

The European Medicines Agency is expected to update its recommendation on this issue on April 7.

Police officer dies after an attack on Capitol building
Capitol police have been through so much and have barely begun the healing process since the attack on the Capitol on January 6th. The National Guard was seen responding to Friday's attack, and later confirmed it had been deployed to the Capitol.

The World Health Organization has also urged countries to continue using the jab.

Britain, where the vaccine was developed with the University of Oxford, has been one of the countries worst-hit by coronavirus with almost 127,000 dead.

Adam Finn, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Bristol, said the "extreme rarity" of the blood-clotting events in the context of the millions of jabs administered in the United Kingdom makes the decision facing people very straightforward.

Australian officials seeking to calm public fears have pointed to the United Kingdom, where millions of AstraZeneca jabs have only led to a few cases of the blood clots.

The MHRA said on Thursday there had been "22 reports of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) and 8 reports of other thrombosis events with low platelets". Germany had taken a similar decision earlier this week.

Michael Kidd, said, however, that the blood clotting case is "likely" related to the vaccine.

AstraZeneca said last month following United States efficiency trials that its vaccine is 79 percent effective at preventing the disease and does not increase the risk of blood clots. People can not choose which one they get.
