Major League Baseball risked player walkout if All-Star Game not moved

Major League Baseball is moving it's scheduled 2021 All Star Game from Atlanta over concerns over new voting laws in the state of Georgia

The game was set for July 13 at Truist Park, the Braves' 41,000-seat stadium in suburban Cobb County.

Undeterred by the GOP threats, Commissioner Manfred stood by the decision in a statement Friday, saying the decision to move the game out of Atlanta was "the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport".

Francona said he, like others, know that matters such as the one in Georgia can be confusing, especially with conflicting perceptions about how the new elections law impacts voters.

Big companies and Major League Baseball had faced pressure to take action from Black executives, Black baseball players and faith leaders who wanted to see important American institutions take a stronger stance against the voting law in Georgia, as well as similar Republican efforts now advancing in states around the country.

The league hasn't yet announced where the 2021 All-Star Game will be played.

In a statement, Trump said: "Baseball is already losing tremendous numbers of fans, and now they leave Atlanta with their All-Star Game because they are afraid of the Radical Left Democrats who do not want voter I.D., which is desperately needed, to have anything to do with our elections". "In 2020, MLB became the first professional sports league to join the non-partisan Civic Alliance to help build a future in which everyone participates in shaping the United States. Fair access to voting continues to have our game's unwavering support".

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred made the decision to move the All-Star events and the amateur draft from Atlanta after discussions with individual players and the Players Alliance, an organization of Black players formed after the death of George Floyd previous year, the commissioner said in a statement.

"Businesses and organizations have great power in their voices and ability to push for change, and I respect the decision of the players to speak out against this unjust law", US Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock of Georgia said in a statement.

Seven deaths in United Kingdom among AstraZeneca vaccine recipients after blood clots
This view is echoed by the World Health Organisation (WHO), which has urged countries to continue using the jab. The EMA is expected to announce updated advice on the issue on April 7.

As the newest owner in Major League Baseball, as part of the Boston Red Sox ownership group, LeBron James is one of Manfred's bosses. "The Braves organisation will continue to stress the importance of equal voting opportunities and we had hoped our city could use this event as a platform to enhance the discussion". "Why are we still listening to these woke corporate hypocrites on taxes, regulations & anti-trust?"

Democrats have taken particular umbrage to the portion of the law that prevents groups from providing water to voters standing in line in the Georgia heat. We will not be intimidated, and we will also not be silenced, ' Kemp said.

Former President Barack Obama, meanwhile, congratulated the Major League Baseball for its decision.

The MLB's move comes after President Joe Biden told ESPN on Wednesday that he would "strongly support" the baseball league moving its annual game out of Georgia due to objections with the new election security bill. "I will not back down".

Former President Trump released a statement on Friday after news broke that the Major League Baseball is moving its All-Star Game out of Atlanta following Governor Brian Kemp's approval of Georgia's new election bill.

David Ralston, the Republican Speaker of the Georgia House, said Georgia will not "be bullied by socialists and their sympathizers" regardless of the MLB's decision.

Georgia played a pivotal role in the recent USA elections, with Democrats eventually winning two key Senate seats to ensure control of Congress. "I urge others in positions of leadership to do so as well".

Abrams also released a statement about the loss of the All-Star Game.
