Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine shows strong effectiveness after six months

The vaccine supplies will be produced at Aspen Biopharama plant in South Africa.

The Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine is normally administered in two doses, 21 days apart, to provide almost full protection against the novel coronavirus, known as SARS-CoV-2.

The latest figures from Africa CDC showed that as of Friday, the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Africa has reached 4,239,639, and the death toll from the pandemic stood at 113,142, while 3,794,269 patients have recovered.

Results also are expected soon from a study of Moderna's vaccine in 12- to 17-year-olds. The longevity of the immune response is truly good news.

However, the CDC still recommends that fully vaccinated travelers closely monitor their symptoms and isolate accordingly if symptoms develop.

The vaccine is also 100 percent effective in preventing severe cases as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control - or 95.3 percent effective against severe cases if we are to follow the definition of the US Food and Drug Administration.

At least 34 killed as train derails in Taiwan
CNN reports that the eight-car train was headed to Taitung when it came off the rails in a tunnel just north of Hualien. Taiwan's state-owned railways are generally reliable and efficient, but have had a patchy safety record over the years.

Pfizer's vaccine is authorized for ages 16 and older.

The South African variant has been detected in several areas of England.

'I would not be surprised if this is a vaccine that we only get once'.

"When we sent these samples to Porton Down they said "we can't give you results right now because we've got to dilute them because they're so high, they're off the scale".

'These mRNA vaccines - it really seems the level of antibodies they elicit are so high, they are persistent.

There have been doubts raised about the effectiveness of vaccines on variants.

Although the new study did not look at the Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine, Prof Moss said the evidence for the jab is that "it's very, very effective". Johnson & Johnson is planning its own pediatric studies.
