JUST IN: CDC Announces Fully Vaccinated People are Cleared to Travel

People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can safely travel within the United States and overseas as long as they continue to take precautions like wearing a mask in public, according to new guidance released Friday by the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than one in five adults in the United States is now fully vaccinated, CDC director Rochelle Walensky said at a briefing. However, the CDC had not made any move to review its guidance that discouraged all non-essential trips.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) said the highest daily total of people at USA airports was 1.57 million on Sunday last.

It says travel is okay if you have been fully vaccinated and you continue to follow public health guidance when on a train, plane or bus.

Ford announces four-week 'emergency-brake shutdown' of Ontario
Outside gatherings are capped at five people while schools will stay open with COVID-19 safety protocols in place. Advisers said new pandemic modelling indicates the third wave is being driven by more deadly variants.

Domestic travelers who are fully vaccinated - meaning two weeks have passed since their second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna shot or their one and only Johnson & Johnson shot - do not need to self-quarantine upon arriving at their destination and "do not need to get tested before or after travel unless their destination requires it", according to the CDC.

In addition, the agency's updated guidance says that fully vaccinated people do not need COVID-19 tests before worldwide travel unless it is required by their destination and vaccinated people returning from global destinations do not need to self-quarantine upon their return, unless required by state or/and local authorities.

However, the TSA said it was not lifting restrictions that bar most-non USA citizens from the United States if they have recently traveled to China, Brazil, South Africa, and most of Europe.

Federal authorities also cite the accelerated pace of vaccinations: As of Friday, an estimated 100 million Americans will have received their first dose, roughly 17% of the country's total population, the CDC said. It added that vaccinated people returning to the United States do not need to self-quarantine unless it is required by state or local authorities.
