JUST IN: CDC Announces Fully Vaccinated People are Cleared to Travel

The announcement was a welcome change for Pamla Wood, who said she hasn't seen her grandchildren since June and has yet to meet her grand-niece.

The new guidance also says fully vaccinated people do not need to get a COVID-19 test before or after domestic travel and do not need to self-quarantine after travel.

More than 100 million people in the United States have received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose. It has to be noted that those flying into the country from any foreign country (more that 2 years of age), including citizens who are returning, need to provide proof of COVID-19 negative test or proof of recovery before boarding a US-bound flight.

- Specifically, the new guidance today speaks to travel.

Taiwan: Dozens feared dead in train crash
The crash occurred near the Toroko Gorge area at around 9 a.m. local time (0100 GMT/UTC) on what is a public holiday in Taiwan . Some carriages hit the wall of the tunnel , as a result of the derailment, the fire department said.

But global travelers headed to the United States should have a negative Covid-19 test before they get on the plane, be tested after arrival, and must quarantine if local authorities in the United States require it, the CDC said in a statement. But they do not need to quarantine when they arrive here.

Already, air travel in the United States has been picking back up.

The CDC cited recent research on the real-world effects of the vaccines for its updated guidance.

It says travel is okay if you have been fully vaccinated and you continue to follow public health guidance when on a train, plane or bus.

These are recommendations and millions of travelers have flown in the last several weeks, according to the TSA. It also said vaccinated people could visit with unvaccinated people from a single household under similar conditions, as long as the unvaccinated individuals were at low risk for severe illness if infected. Full immunity doesn't kick in until two weeks after getting the second shot of the Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines or two weeks after getting the Johnson & Johnson shot, the agency said.
