CDC Changes Tune on COVID Guidance for Vaccinated Travelers

CDC Says Vaccinated Americans Can Travel Without a COVID-19 Tests or Quarantine

I would advocate against general travel overall.

For fully vaccinated Americans, this updated CDC guidance relieves much of the stress that comes with incorporating COVID-19 restrictions into travel plans.

"Our guidance on an unvaccinated individual really is to limit travel to only essential travel with masking, protective - prevention strategies".

And, during Friday's White House briefing, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, said it would be better if vaccinated people stayed home.

The CDC's tweets this week are based on already existing CDC guidance for fully vaccinated individuals - meaning it's been two weeks since they received their second dose of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, or it's been two weeks since they received the single dose of Johnson & Johnson's vaccine.

'Missing link' in Brisbane's original COVID-19 cluster found
Most cases are now in Brisbane or regional hospitals, including on the Gold Coast, at Toowoomba, and Bundaberg. It prompted Bluesfest to be cancelled just 24 hours before the first act was due to perform.

Previously, the agency had cautioned against unnecessary travel even for vaccinated people, but noted that it would update its guidance as more people got vaccinated and evidence mounted about the protection the shots provide.

But worldwide travelers headed to the United States should have a negative Covid-19 test before they get on the plane, be tested after arrival, and must quarantine if local authorities in the United States require it, the CDC said in a statement.

Worldwide travelers who've been vaccinated also don't need to take a COVID test before heading overseas, unless their destination country requires one, or self-quarantine upon arriving back in the US.

The U.S.travel industry which has had a dismal year because of the Covid-19 crisis expects this announcement will help them come out of the slump though recently many Americans have ignored the guidelines and have started traveling in higher numbers. People should still wear a mask, socially distance and avoid crowds, the agency says. "At the same time, we must balance this guidance with the fact that most Americans are not yet fully vaccinated, which is likely contributing to our rise in cases", she said. Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March.
