Australia investigates possible link of blood clot case to vaccine

In a report out Thursday, the U.K.'s drug safety regulator said it had identified more cases of thrombosisamong recipients of theOxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, bringing the total to 30 - though it said the benefits of the shot still far outweigh the risks.

The report comes after several European countries have introduced precautionary suspensions of the AstraZeneca vaccine, despite the European Medicines Agency dismissing suggestions the jab increased the risk of blood clots.

Germany restricted the use of the shot to people over 60 years of age, France has limited its use to those over 55.

The European Union's medicines regulator has also recommended that countries continue to use the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Regulators said they had received no reports of such clotting events after the use of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine.

"My general feeling is that given the contractual relationships that we have with a number of companies, that we have enough vaccine to fulfill all of our needs without invoking AstraZeneca", he said.

The woman - who was vaccinated in mid-March due to her work at a centre with disabled people - did not suffer from any particular health problem, added Boittin.
