Americans with 2 COVID vaccine doses can travel, CDC says

EU Ban on US Travelers

Masks are still recommended, along with social distancing and other precautions.

In a statement, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, "With millions of Americans getting vaccinated every day, it is important to update the public on the latest science about what fully vaccinated people can do safely, now including guidance on safe travel".

The new guidance comes as almost a third of the country's adult population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. People should also stay home and quarantine for seven days after travel, even if their COVID-19 test is negative, the agency says.

But worldwide travelers headed to the United States should have a negative Covid-19 test before they get on the plane, be tested after arrival, and must quarantine if local authorities in the United States require it, the CDC said in a statement.

The CDC considers a person fully vaccinated two weeks after having the final shot of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Fully vaccinated people can travel within the US, without getting tested for the coronavirus or quarantining.

Those who haven't received their second shots or haven't been immunized for two weeks should especially avoid traveling, according to the CDC.

BBC China correspondent strikes to Taiwan from Beijing as tensions develop
In a statement to media outlets , China's foreign ministry denied threatening the reporter and said Sudworth had not given any notice of his departure.

Why the guidance change?

Some travel guidance remains unchanged.

The CDC has said it will continue to update guidance about how to socialize, travel and return to workplaces as more Americans get vaccinated.

Meanwhile, nothing has changed for travelers who are not fully vaccinated.

CDC also said those who are not fully vaccinated should avoid non-essential domestic travel. The agency noted the potential introduction of virus variants and differences in vaccine coverage around the world for the cautious guidance on overseas travel.

Despite previous warnings against travel from the CDC, the Transportation Security Administration has continued to see a considerable uptick in passengers as the vaccine rollout grows. Transportation Safety Administration's numbers show more than 1 million passengers have passed through airport security almost every day in March. "At the same time, we must balance this guidance with the fact that most Americans are not yet fully vaccinated, which is likely contributing to our rise in cases", she said.
