The weather forecast for Leitrim and surrounding counties for the Easter weekend

The good weather is set to be replaced by cloud and cold

EASTER SUNDAY: Sunshine in many places early on Sunday but cloud in the northwest will gradually build southeastwards through the morning.

It will continue dry into Friday evening though it will prove colder than recent days with temperatures sinking to just above freezing.

Met Éireann has warned that despite the fact that temperatures are set to reach 19 degrees in some parts of the country today, we could also be in line for some snow over the Easter weekend.

Temperatures across much of England and Wales climbed to over 20°C this week however conditions will change dramatically later this week and over the Easter weekend with colder spreading from the north.

Saturday night will be dry with clear spells, and some patches of mist and fog.

On average, the United Kingdom experiences around 14 days each spring where temperatures fall to zero or below, revealed the forecaster.

Saturday, April 3 will continue dry with good sunny spells. It will be cloudier further north.

Between Sunday night and Monday morning, temperatures could sink to as low as minus 2C. Highest temperatures will range between 10 and 16 degrees, coolest in east Leinster due to a moderate easterly breeze. Some wintry showers may develop overnight on north-facing coasts. Sunday brings strong to gale winds, a band of rain crossing from north, clearing to showers, these turning wintry to all levels late Sunday and through Easter Monday.

The outlook for Easter Monday here is some snow showers, with spells of hail showers, indicating the arrival of a brief "spring cold snap". Highest temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees with fresh, gusty northerly winds.

However, the Arctic weather front will see overnight temperatures plunge to minus 2C over Easter Sunday night and into Monday morning - with parts of Ulster even seeing snow showers on Easter Sunday night. Frost and icy patches will develop as temperatures fall to between -2° and +2°. Highest temperatures will be 5° to 8° with light to moderate west to northwest winds.

Wednesday (April 7) will be cloudier and less cold with some rain or drizzle, while the rest of the week will be cold with showers at times, some wintry.
