'Missing link' in Brisbane's original COVID-19 cluster found

The Queensland Premier has confirmed eight new cases of COVID have been detected overnight

Seven new COVID-19 cases have been detected in Queensland in recent days.

The cluster of cases linked to the bachelorette party has grown to 12 cases, while the one connected to a doctor at the Princess Alexandra Hospital remains steady at eight infections.

The missing link is a nurse who worked at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

"What I say to the public is [that] this is very encouraging and we'll be providing you with an update again tomorrow at 9am and, fingered crossed, all will be looking good for Easter", she said. He was the gentleman who came from Europe and was admitted and transmitted the infection to a doctor.

"People have been travelling a lot anyway and it's just a good reminder over the long weekend and the school holiday period that people... are making sure that they maintain those COVID-safe behaviours", Ms Stephen-Smith said.

This meant those in Victoria observing red zone permit conditions and quarantining for 14 days were designated orange zone arrivals and could end their isolation if they have returned a negative test result since arriving in Victoria. "But then to get a second cluster, that's an enormous amount of risk".

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the three-day lockdown in Brisbane would end at noon local time but residents would still be required to wear masks in public and some social distancing restrictions would remain in place.

Queensland recorded no new cases of community transmission of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

It prompted Bluesfest to be cancelled just 24 hours before the first act was due to perform.

NSW Health declared all retail and takeaway shops in most of downtown Byron Bay were an exposure site on Saturday afternoon.

"If there's anyone in their friendship group or their house that are sick, they should go and get tested".

Fears were growing the lockdown in Queensland could continue, with a seemingly insignificant paragraph on the state's official health website appearing to indicate the lockdown could last an extra five days.

"If you are outdoors and you can not socially distance, put a mask on, it is as simple as that".

Most cases are now in Brisbane or regional hospitals, including on the Gold Coast, at Toowoomba, and Bundaberg.

The nurse never showed symptoms but was tested through being a contact of a case.

The casual contacts list also includes Officeworks in Rothwell, Stable Coffee Kitchen in Tugun, World Gym in North Lakes, Coles in Everton Park Shopping Centre and Reef Seafood & Sushi Brisbane.
