CBP: Little girls dropped from border wall in Southern NM

Migrants from Central America who arrived illegally from Mexico to the US to seek asylum across the Rio Grande river speak with border patrol agents after arriving at a makeshift processing center run by border patrol agents at the border city of Roma

Border Patrol on Wednesday released a shocking video of smugglers abandoning a 5-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl at the border in the New Mexico desert in the middle of the night - after dropping them over a 14-foot border barrier. Last month, almost 9,500 unaccompanied children arrived at the U.S. -Mexico border, a record high for any February in history.

El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Gloria Chavez said her agency was working with Mexican authorities to look into the incident. The toddler lays still on the ground for a few moments after her fall, before bringing herself to her feet as her 5-year-old sister lands next to her.

The smugglers were under cover of night, but a border agent captured the incident on a cellphone camera using night-vision technology.

U.S. Border Patrol Agents responded to a potentially life-threatening situation involving two female tender-aged toddlers mistreated and abandoned by human smugglers just west of Mt. Cristo Rey. They now remain at a Border Patrol temporary holding facility pending placement by the U.S. Health and Human Services Department. He said that families with children typically enter the U.S.as a group and surrender to Border Patrol agents.

Biden nominates several federal judges, including replacement for Garland
Jackson, a judge on the federal district court in the District of Columbia, was widely considered a leading pick to the D.C. Biden began his term with 68 judicial vacancies, including seven appellate court vacancies and 61 district court vacancies.

They were dropped from the wall by human smugglers on Tuesday evening, who fled the area on foot.

CBP says the girls are sisters from Ecuador and they were both alert when agents made contact with them. "We are now working with our law enforcement partners in Mexico and attempting to identify these ruthless human smugglers so as to hold them accountable to the fullest extent of the law".

Immigration officials have recorded a dramatic rise in encounters with unaccompanied children over the last month.

Since taking office on January 20, U.S. President Joe Biden has reversed numerous controversial immigration policies that his predecessor, Donald Trump, put in place, including the practice of immediately expelling unaccompanied children and teenagers.
