Ontario's COVID-19 ICU admissions climb to new high of 421

Ontario reports 2,333 new cases of COVID-19, 15 deaths, nearly 90,000 vaccinations

He says residents need to take precautions against the virus and refrain from gathering over the Easter weekend.

The premier made the comments during a news conference on Wednesday shortly after the latest Critical Care Services Ontario report, obtained by CTV News Toronto, showed there are now 421 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care units (ICUs) across the province.

"I am very concerned about the breakdown in social cohesion and the understanding of the risk and the sacrifice that is still needed to get us all through this safely together and without unnecessary death and harm and further massive disruption to hospital care", he said. "To be very frank, I don't want to predict two weeks out, but we'll be out here every single day, communicating with the people".

Hospital officials expect the number of COVID-19 patients in the ICU to continue to rise to today's record as new cases are increasing daily in recent days.

In response to a reporter's question, Lecce also said he wants to assure families that the province's intention is to proceed with the April break.

The president of the Ontario Hospital Association said the province could face a new surge in patient transfers and cancelled surgeries as it deals with the third wave of COVID-19 in the weeks ahead.

Netizens compare Suez Canal blockade to Bengaluru traffic snarls
Such an arrangement is customary, but the ship's captain retains ultimate authority over the vessel, according to experts. Rabie said the ships that are waiting were free to reroute around the Cape of Good Hope, but none had yet done so.

Ford urged people to be "vigilant" in light of those figures.

"Based on public health advice and to ensure that we continue to maximize our mega sites, we have asked the province to lower the eligibility age for people who could come to our sites and register on the provincial system in the City of Toronto to 60 years old", the Mayor said.

Health Minister Christine Elliott said "everything is on the table" as the government contemplates more public health restrictions - repeating a phrase used by Ford earlier this week. "So even if we implement significant public health measures today, we could see ICU numbers hit 500, but if we don't, that's when things could really get bad".

Green party Leader Mike Schreiner also urged the government to act. Daily case numbers have remained above the 2,000 mark for seven straight days.

The Province of Ontario has confirmed 2,336 new cases of COVID-19 this morning, bringing the total number of cases in the Province to 347,570.
