Australia's Queensland state coronavirus cluster grows to three

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk

The 25 people who attended the party have been ordered into quarantine.

He visited the centre between midday and 2.16pm last Saturday, March 20.

Contact tracers are working to update the list based on the movements of the 25 party guests.

It now appears that there were only five people at his house, some of whom were entitled to be there, and that the event would not be classified as a party.

The man, from Strathpine - a suburb in the Moreton Bay Region on the outskirts of Brisbane, roughly 22 kilometres north of the CBD - tested positive for the virus on Friday night, Queensland Health confirmed.

University of Queensland virologist Professor Ian Mackay said there was a good chance the virus had spread.

It is understood one of the five people at the house does not live there permanently but has been classed as a housemate because he had been there for a number of days.

"They are important risk areas".

"So we now have significant community transmission and significant numbers of venues of concern, all through Brisbane and we know that people have moved from Brisbane out into the broader community".

Queensland has recorded one new community case of COVID in the past 24 hours. Now the state is bracing about 1,300 people from overseas per week.

She was then removed from the Capitol, while repeatedly identifying herself as a legislator, and placed into a police vehicle . Cannon was charged with obstruction of law enforcement and disruption of the General Assembly.

New South Wales, Victoria and the ACT have declared the two Queensland council areas as hotspots.

Many holidaymakers and tourism operators are breathing a sigh of relief that a potential growth in the cluster has been averted.

The number of worldwide flight arrivals will be halved, to ease pressure on hospitals also dealing with a surge in Covid-19 cases from neighbouring Papua New Guinea.

Late on Sunday, Queensland Police cleared the Strathpine man in his 20s - who tested positive on Friday after contracting the United Kingdom strain of COVID-19 from a male friend in Stafford - of any wrongdoing.

"This is a huge job now that we have to do because we've got more of this community transmission", Premier Annastacia Palasczuk said.

Health authorities in Brisbane are scrambling to locate close contacts of a COVID-19 case who hosted a party at his home and visited several venues while he was infectious.

The man also visited at least 15 venues across Strathpine, Lawnton, Eatons Hill and East Brisbane while he was infectious.

Ms Palaszczuk said the next two days were "critical".

"I understand that as time has gone on overnight, there has been a further investigation, independent investigation from what the gentleman had said, whether it was a misunderstanding at the time or what it was, I can not tell you".

But Mr Morrison said the risks that sparked Queensland's border closures a year ago had changed and the state should adopt "a balanced approach here".
