What we know about Tiger Woods' auto accident in L.A.

Tiger Woods Injured in Single Car Crash in L.A., Extracted with Jaws of Life

While his vehicle was badly damaged, the airbags deployed and the interior of the auto remained bascially intact, giving Woods "a cushion to survive the crash", according to Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva. "We are so sorry that you and your family are going through this tough time".

Tiger Woods was rushed to the hospital after his auto crashed Tuesday morning.

Officials said that Woods was able to communicate with officers and paramedics.

Woods, 45, suffered serious injuries to both legs in the single-vehicle crash, but the injuries are not life-threatening, officials said Tuesday afternoon.

Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend to host The Genesis Invitational, and he was scheduled to stay in the area Monday and Tuesday for a Golf Digest shoot with former National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade and comedian David Spade.

Woods underwent his fifth back surgery in December.

When Woods' world ranking plummeted outside 1,100, even his most ardent fans would have struggled to dream up what happened next.

Tommy Haas: "Naomi Osaka will be a Superstar!"
The former UCLA All American carries clarity from her US Open semifinal loss into this final. "I think about that match a lot". I think that's where you sort of set yourself apart. "It's something that I think, I don't know, it's like the biggest fight".

"I am sick to my stomach", fellow PGA Tour golfer Justin Thomas said during a news conference in which he called Woods one of his closest friends. "We pray for him, for his full recovery and for his family during this hard time".

"Man, I just hope he's alright".

"Thoughts are with @TigerWoods and others involved", Poulter wrote. "Let us all pray for his speedy recovery".

Although he did not hit balls or play any holes Monday, a smiling Woods was with retired National Basketball Association star Dwyane Wade and comedian David Spade - both of whom documented it on social media - at Rolling Hills Country Club. "I know you're good because your Tiger within is a beast!"

Woods also served as a major influence on the modern generation of golfers such as Australian world No. 1 Jason Day, who has said he read a book about Woods and chose to copy the American's high work ethic, spending hours and hours on the practice range.

The 15-time major champion told CBS's Jim Nantz over the weekend that he was hoping to resume more activity after the results of an MRI following back surgery in January.

"On behalf of the PGA Tour and our players, Tiger is in our prayers and will have our full support as he recovers", PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement.

In response to another critic who accused him of being "completely insensitive", Scholes said he "didn't mean for it to come out that way".
