Sports world wishes Tiger Woods well after vehicle crash

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is undergoing surgery on leg injuries after being cut from his vehicle following an accident in Los Angeles, officials have confirmed.

It added: "Mr Woods was extricated from the wreck with the "jaws of life" by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries".

This is the third time Woods has been involved in a auto investigation.

A KABC-TV helicopter over the scene of Woods' accident showed a auto on its side with the front end heavily damaged. "He is now in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support", the statement read.

After a series of injuries and personal issues derailed his career at times, Woods claimed his 15th major title at the Masters in 2019, his fifth time earning the coveted green jacket given to Masters champions. Air bags appeared to be deployed. They also confirmed that the occupant of the vehicle was Woods.

The crash occurred shortly before 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, officials said.

Woods was in Los Angeles over the weekend as the tournament host of the Genesis Invitational at Riviera, where he presented the trophy. He did not play.

Woods has not played since December, when he took part in the PNC Championship in Orlando with his son, Charlie, who turned 12 earlier this month. The Masters is April 8-11 and when asked if he would be there during the CBS telecast, Woods replied, "God, I hope so". The auto Woods was driving appeared to have Genesis logo and moniker on its doors, meaning it could be a tournament courtesy vehicle. In 2009, he was found semi-conscious and bleeding outside his Florida home after his auto hit a fire hydrant.

Woods admitted to infidelities and went to stay at a MS addiction clinic, all of which led a number of sponsors, including Gillette, Accenture and AT&T, to cut ties with the golfer as he announced an "indefinite" break from golf.

In 2017, Woods, who had fallen outside the top-1000 players in golf's world rankings, was charged with driving under the influence after failing roadside sobriety tests when he was found asleep in his running auto.

In May 2017, Florida police found him asleep behind the wheel of a vehicle parked awkwardly on the side of the road. Woods later pleaded guilty to reckless driving and checked into a clinic to get help with prescription medication and a sleep disorder. After that crash, it was reported that Woods had a cocktail of painkillers in his system, some of which had been prescribed due to a back surgery that same year.
