AstraZeneca CEO delighted as Ghana takes delivery of vaccines

The vaccine has only been approved for under-65s in Germany, and Merkel is 66.

But over 1 million jabs have been left unused, with many Germans unsure of its efficacy.

Ghana has already won praise from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNICEF for being the first country to receive the COVAX vaccines. People have reportedly refused to take AstraZeneca's vaccine after European leaders cast doubt on its effectiveness.

The current report also comes as AstraZeneca's contract with the European Union, leaked last week by Italian public broadcaster RAI, revealed the company had committed to delivering between 30 million and 40 million doses to the European Union at the end of 2020, 80 million to 100 million doses by the end of the first quarter of 2021, and the total 300 million doses by the end of June.

"'I am 66 years old and do not belong to the recommended group for AstraZeneca", she told the paper. The chancellor said she would not get the vaccine because it had not been approved for people over 65 in Germany.

"AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine is indicated for active immunization of individuals 18 years of age and older for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019", reads their website. There has not yet been any official comment on the report from the German health ministry.

Ontarians over 80 can soon book COVID-19 vaccine appointments
Phase three covers the general population, at which point all individuals who wish to be vaccinated will receive the vaccine. Additionally, the province is now developing an online vaccination booking system to support the next phase of rollout.

The additional problems of vaccine acceptance and slow national vaccination programmes add up to the hardships in ensuring timely supplies. "As long as the vaccines are as scarce as they are at present, you can not choose what you want to vaccinate with".

"Overall, there are no important safety concerns and the vaccine was well tolerated by participants", Health Canada said. "As long as the vaccines are as scarce as they are at present, you can not choose what you want to vaccinate with".

France has faced similar problems since President Emmanuel Macron suggested without evidence in late January that AstraZeneca's vaccine seemed "quasi-ineffective" among people over 65.

Health Canada has approved use of the COVID-19 vaccine from AstraZeneca this morning, clearing the way for millions of more inoculations in Canada.

Officials in Austria, Belgium, and Italy have also started to report some resistance to the British vaccine, France24 reported.

He explained that when they entered the agreement with Oxford, the initial assumption of the university was for the productivity of 5,000 doses coming out of one litre, but in the end, they adopted a much lower assumption in the forecast "because we wanted to be conservative".
