Pence reportedly declines CPAC invitation after Trump announces attendance

Trump to make 1st post-presidential appearance at upcoming conservative gathering in Florida

Ian Walters, spokesman for the American Conservative Union, confirmed that Trump will be speaking at the group's annual Conservative Political Action Conference on February 28.

The former Trump campaign senior adviser said the "outpouring" of support for the former president, including spontaneous parades in Florida, has been "so incredible".

Former US President Donald Trump is widely expected to deliver a speech at the upcoming Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida next week, which would mark his first major public appearance since leaving the White House.

Trump will be giving his first post-White House speech later this month, a source familiar with the plan was quoted by news agency AFP.

The appearance is scheduled for February 28 at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), one of the country's largest annual gatherings of political conservatives.

"We accept Joe Biden is the duly elected president of the United States", former Pence chief of staff Marc Short told CNN's Pamela Brown on "Newsroom" Saturday evening, despite Pence playing a role in perpetuating baseless election fraud theories that Trump repeatedly pushed ahead of the attack on the Capitol.

BC health officials announce 508 new COVID-19 cases

Stripped of his Twitter megaphone, he called into friendly cable TV news programs this week after the death of conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, musing on far-right channel Newsmax about the possibility of a future political run.

"He is the head of the Republican Party", she said. Rejecting Romney again this year, CPAC has instead fully embraced Trump-as have most conservative voters. "But the numbers are very good, they're very high".

Other confirmed speakers at the event this year include Trump's former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, his former Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson - among a slew of other prominent voices in the conservative movement.

Last year, Senator Mitt Romney, a Utah Republican, was told publicly not to attend the event-despite previously winning CPAC's presidential straw poll on four occasions.

Although Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, voted to acquit Trump, he said this was because he did not believe it was constitutional to hold a Senate trial for a president after he'd left office.
