Plane parts fall from sky in Colorado

Check out these photos that were captured and posted out in Broomfield, where police shared images of massive chunks of debris from what appears to be the turbine engine and other parts of the plane laid scattered about on the lawns of folks in neighborhoods below.

A United Airlines Boeing 777-200, registered N772UA, suffered an uncontained engine failure during its departure from Denver International Airport.

Broomfield police said nobody had been injured after the debris rained down from the skies. Any damage to homes was still being assessed, Broomfield Police Department Public Information Officer Rachel Welte told reporters Saturday afternoon.

The Denver-based NTSB investigators are responding to the incident. "The debris was so far and wide". The plane had just taken off for Hawaii from Denver International Airport about 1 p.m. local time when the engine came apart.

One of the folks who witnessed the incident, Kieran Cain, told CNN he was outside playing with his kids when they heard the explosion as the plane flew overhead. There were no reported injuries onboard.

"The fact that we are still not getting reports of any injuries is absolutely shocking at this point", Welte said.

Below is the ATC recording of the pilots from United Airlines Flt 328, a Boeing 777, declaring a mayday after the engine exploded. There were 231 passengers and 10 crew members on board. The airline said it is now working on getting the customers a new flight to Honolulu over the next few hours.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident and has asked Coloradans not to touch debris if they find them.
