Now fears are growing over five people in New South Wales who were staying at another quarantine hotel, where the mutant United Kingdom strain slipped between hotel rooms.
The season's first Grand Slam, starting Monday, has already had a rocky build-up after it was delayed three weeks to allow players to quarantine and play the warm-up tournaments.
A 26-year-old man has tested positive for Covid-19 - believed to be the United Kingdom strain of the virus - after working at the Grand Hyatt hotel in Melbourne's Central Business District, Andrews said.
Five people staying at the same hotel at the time are now in NSW, with officials concerned the virus spread through air-conditioning vents or around open doors.
