Tom Brady offers honest assessment of his Buccaneers debut

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports Has Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady discovered the fountain of youth in Tampa

It was just his fourth loss in a season opener, and it was the third consecutive game in which he threw a pick-six (last season's AFC wild-card game vs. the Tennessee Titans and a Week 17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, both while with the Patriots).

Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin tweeted that National Football League sales were up more than 35% for the opening weekend compared to previous year, setting a new record.

Tom Brady was intercepted twice in his Tampa Bay debut, Alvin Kamara scored touchdowns running and receiving, and the New Orleans Saints beat the Buccaneers 34-23 on Sunday.

Tight end O.J. Howard suggested if there was a silver lining to losing to the Saints, it's that a talented-laden team with lofty expectations might benefit from being served a piece of "humble pie" early - rather than later - in the season.

Arians, who has also worked with Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Palmer and Andrew Luck during a long coaching career, doesn't shy away from making critical comments about the play of his quarterbacks.

Some people will chalk it up to the fact that Brady is still getting used to a new team and a new division, but Arians said he looked great in practice and the Saints "didn't do things that we didn't get ready for", gently suggesting that Brady's miscues were his own doing.

"It speaks for itself".

Kendall Jenner reveals shes a stoner

"If you're throwing an out-route, you don't throw it low and inside", Arians told reporters Monday. "He was a little late on it and probably better decision to go somewhere else with the ball". When it seemed like he was being modest - especially after strong outings in the Bucs' two team scrimmages - perhaps he was really being honest that he still has a ways to go in terms of acclimating to a new team and system, especially in the absence of an offseason and preseason.

"He's had it before - he knows how to bounce back", Arians said.

WHAT'S WORKING - With the exception of a couple of breakdowns and crucial penalties, Arians felt the defense played well enough to win.

"I certainly think poor execution and that's what it comes down to", said Brady after the game. His first TD pass was a dump-off to Kamara from 12 yards out. The coach expects Fournette's role to increase moving forward. "Not turning the ball over is a good place to start".

"I was very disappointed in his play", Arians said.

Brady was 15 of 28 passing for 157 yards and one TD through the first 54 minutes. He also connected with Evans - who played despite a hamstring injury - on a touchdown throw to the corner of the end zone.
