MI begins processing $300 supplemental unemployment payments

Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly announces $63M for unemployment relief

Still out of work as a result of the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic? Those who are qualified will receive emails, Labor Department Commissioner Roberta Reardon said.

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity has begun to pay the Federal Lost Wages Assistance program benefits to eligible Floridians.

About 2 million New Yorkers are pre-qualified for the assistance, officials said. Kansas still has to create and implement a new system for distributing the money.

If you need to self-certify, you will receive a notification in your MIWAM account starting this week.

The program provides an additional $300 in weekly benefits.

"Initially, eligible claimants will receive LWA for the benefit weeks ending Aug. 1, Aug. 8 and Aug. 15, 2020", said UIA Director Steve Gray in a news release, "An estimated 910,000 claimants will receive these much-needed additional benefits". Payments will be retroactive for the weeks ending 8/1/2020, 8/8/2020, 8/15/2020, 8/22/2020 and 8/29/20.

It's now unclear how many additional weeks of benefits New Yorkers will receive outside of the initial three.

Eligible Floridians can expect payments from the LWA program this week. The special assistance program was a temporary provision meant to replace the $600 per week benefit established under the CARES Act.

Funding for the program will continue until any of the following occur, according to FEMA.

If none of the above scenarios occur before December 27, 2020, funding will terminate on that date.

Individuals receiving benefits from these programs will need to apply for Lost Wages Assistance by certifying that their unemployment is due to COVID-19. "All New Yorkers should keep an eye out for these messages and, if an additional certification is required, respond immediately".
