NY Mets Can't Find Yoenis Cespedes, Never Reported To Ballpark

A leaky bullpen provides a frightening replay of 2019 for the Mets

Mets manager Luis Rojas said he had called and texted Cespedes prior to the start of the game and hadn't received a response. "It was surprising, without question". The team sent security officials to Cespedes' hotel room, but he wasn't there and his belongings were gone.

Following the game, Van Wagenen said he was glad Cespedes was safe, "because there's a period of time where we weren't sure".

Van Wagenen said he learned of Cespedes' plan to opt out from the player's agent during Sunday's game against the Braves.

Following the Mets' 4-0 loss to Atlanta, Van Wagenen announced he had found out during the game that Cespedes was opting out of the remainder of the season out of an abundance of caution given the coronavirus pandemic.

Celtics' Marcus Smart fined $15K for criticizing overturned call against Bucks
The Bucks posted a photo showing the players kneeling and wearing shirts that said "Black Lives Matter". So, that's what I told him at the end of the game.

The news came three hours after the Mets released a statement saying Cespedes did not arrive for work and they couldn't reach him.

The 34-year-old baseball player for the New York Mets caused concern earlier in the day when he didn't show up and the team was unable to contact him to locate where he was.

Cespedes, playing for the first time in two years after a series of injuries, has struggled so far, batting.161 with two home runs, four RBIs and 15 strikeouts in 31 at-bats.

The two-time All-Star missed a majority of the last two seasons because of leg injures.
