Arizona congressman tests positive for COVID-19

Rep. Raúl Grijalva Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Rep. Raul Grijalva, Arizona Democrat, was quick to point the finger at unmasked Republican lawmakers after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

The attack comes after Louie Gohmert, a Texas Republican who has frequently refused to wear a mask, tested positive for coronavirus last week.

Like many who contract COVID-19, Grijalva said he is showing no symptoms and feels fine.

"While I can not blame anyone directly for this, this week has shown that there are some Members of Congress who fail to take this crisis seriously", he said in a statement that he posted to his Twitter account on Saturday afternoon. Grijalva said while he can't blame anyone directly for his diagnosis, he has seen numerous Republican colleagues walk around the Capitol without a mask. "Stopping the spread of a deadly virus should not be a partisan issue", Grijalva said in his statement, urging people to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance on how to prevent the spread of the virus.

Mysuru: JSS Hospital picked for vaccine trials

After the Gohmert news broke, the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, announced she would require all House members and aides to wear mask. They have both said that equipment and tests should instead be directed to front-line workers. The next day, Gohmert tested positive for the coronavirus during a routine screening at the White House.

The leaders in May rejected an offer from President Donald Trump to send rapid tests to the Capitol for lawmakers.

Grijalva represents District 3 in southern Arizona and serves as the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee.

Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., tweeted Wednesday that he had dinner with Gohmert on Monday and, although he feels asymptomatic, he would self-quarantine for 14 days.
