New COVID App Ready For Download

Canada's COVID Alert App

The app uses bluetooth technology to bounce off other phones who are also using the app and have their bluetooth activated.

Trudeau said the federal government is working with the Atlantic provinces to integrate their system with the app next.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a press conference as he visits the Public Health Agency of Canada during the COVID-19 pandemic in Ottawa on Friday, July 31, 2020.

"(I) t bears noting that an app, described worldwide as extremely privacy sensitive and the subject of reasoned concern for the future of democratic values, is defended by the Government of Canada as not subject to its privacy laws", the OPC's review report notes.

Officials say the more people who download the app, the more effective it will be and stressed that it is a notification app, not a contact-tracing app.

"I've downloaded the app this morning and I encourage you to do the same", he said, Friday, as use of the app is voluntary.

If someone does get a positive covid-19 test - they will have to enter a specific code in order to send out a notification to other app users. The "COVID Alert" is now available in Ontario, with expected availability across the remainder of Canada's provinces and territories by summer's end. It's the same thing as a mask or anything like that.

The app doesn't require the users personal information so if you test positive your identity will be kept private. He also told reporters that the federal government will create a transitional parallel benefit for CERB recipients who do not qualify for EI, such as contract workers.

Former Republican Presidential Candidate Herman Cain Dies After Battle With Covid-19
He, like many other people at the rally, did not wear a mask, and was shortly thereafter diagnosed with the virus. John Lewis ended. "Our hearts grieve for his loved ones, and they will remain in our prayers at this time".

This is a message from the Government of Canada.

"You've had close contact with someone who reported a COVID-19 diagnosis through the app. Learn more about what to do next", reads the example of a push notification users would receive.

No to mandatory contact tracing and government surveillance for the coronavirus! That long weekend people went to parties beaches and gathering acting like COVID-19 was over.

As of Thursday, there were less than 15,000 reported active cases of COVID-19 in Canada.

"Canadians can opt to use this technology knowing it includes very significant privacy protections", says Daniel Therrien, Privacy Commissioner of Canada. "I will use it".

The free app is available via from the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

"This is again cause for modernizing our laws so that they effectively protect Canadian citizens", he said.

If someone downloads the app at the time of receiving a positive COVID-19 test result, app users who had been in their vicinity will still be notified when the ill person "uploads" the key code.
