Staff member at Burnaby long-term care home tests positive for COVID -19

Brad Squires owns Alpine Country Lodge in St. John's

The outbreak is at Dania Home, a long-term care home with independent and assisted-living facilities in Burnaby.

Dania Home is one of three facilities run by the Dania Home Society, Fraser Health said, but the outbreak is not connected to the other two.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix say in a joint statement people should strive to socialize safely and in small groups this B.C. Day weekend.

To that end, the province has released a new "Good Times Guide", from Henry, intended as a "playbook" to help British Columbians figure out how to "spread fun - not COVID-19".

There are 278 active cases in the province, with five individuals hospitalized, two of whom are in intensive care.

The statement from Henry and Dix did not indicate how many cases were associated with the Dania Home outbreak or how the virus was introduced to the facility.

According to Fraser Health, the staff member "worked in one contained unit" and did not work in other areas.

It's a family affair, with musical cousins - both familiar and on the verge - part of the safari ride. Beyonce singing "because you're beautiful", face-to-face with Rowland, could induce tears.

Dix and Henry said there have been no new community outbreaks over the last 24 hours.

Of the 50 new cases, five cases are epidemiologically-linked, meaning people who were never tested but were presumed to have COVID-19 because they developed symptoms and were close contacts of a laboratory-confirmed case.

There have also been 63 cases identified in B.C. involving people who reside outside of Canada.

Haida Gwaii, meanwhile, remains closed to non-residents as locals continue to deal with the community outbreak affecting the northern island archipelago.

A new, good times guide, can be found on the government's website for anyone looking for tips on how to stay safe while being social amidst a pandemic.

A total of 3,168 people who have tested positive for the virus are now considered recovered.
