Ontario's New COVID-19 Cases Just Spiked Above 100 Again

According to the province's Minister of Health, Christine Elliott, 134 new COVID-19 cases in Ontario were reported on July 31. That's an increase of about 2,120 since Tuesday, or an average of about 706 per day.

Since July 18, there have been 333 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Ottawa.

Of the new cases, she says 26 are in Ottawa and 24 are in Windsor-Essex.

There have now been a total of 39,209 cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 35,074 recovered cases and 2,775 deaths. Ottawa's death toll remains unchanged again as it sits at 264.

There are nine people now hospitalized with COVID-19 complications, one fewer than Thursday.

The under 20 age group still has 233 active cases.

Ottawa's surge in coronavirus cases continues heading into the August long weekend as public health officials urge residents to get back to basics to flatten the curve.

Those between 20-29 still have the most reported number of cases with 6,360, followed by the 50-59 cohort at 6,256. There are two confirmed cases among children there, in addition to one staff member.

The most recorded number of cases resulting in death still are in those involving patients over 70 years of age.

More than half of all new cases reported Friday are in people under the age of 40, with eight cases in people under the age of 20.

There are 10 active outbreaks in congregate settings in Ottawa, including childcare spaces, long-term care homes, and retirement homes.

The province completed 30,033 tests in the previous 24 hour period - the first time in two weeks the number of tests processed has exceeded 30,000.

In total, the province has performed 2,171,972 tests since the pandemic started.
