Magic's Isaac takes lone stand at National Basketball Association restart

Jonathan Isaac did not kneel during National Anthem

This was done so as to use the platform of the National Basketball Association to spread more awareness about the "Black Lives Matter" campaign.

"We are all supporting each other in this, and if guys are not comfortable kneeling and they want to stand then nobody has a problem with that", Clifford said, courtesy of FOX Sports Magic.

Isaac, in his first game since January because of a knee injury, played well.

Players and teams at the restart at Disney have elected to kneel for the playing of the anthems, doing so along the sideline nearest their benches - which also happens to be the one where "Black Lives Matter" has been painted onto the playing surface.

Isaac, who is Black, declined to participate, standing for the anthem while wearing his jersey.

"I believe that my life is supported through the Gospel, through Jesus Christ and that everyone is made in the image of God and we all fall short of God's glory". A lot went in my decision. And part of it is, first off, is my thought that kneeling or wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt don't go hand in hand with supporting Black lives.

"I don't think that kneeling or putting on a T-shirt, for me personally, is the answer", Isaac said.

Jonathan Isaac scored 16 points and logged six rebounds in Orlando's win over Brooklyn in the NBA's season restart.

However, in June Isaac was asked about the protests following the police-involved death of George Floyd.

Isaac has been open about his Christian faith and even became an ordained minister during the National Basketball Association shutdown.

All coaches from both clubs also knelt in protest, with some players choosing to lock arms as others raised a fist.

The team said it was proud of its players, and stressed that the protests are not about the military, but about "bigotry, racial injustice and the unwarranted use of violence by police". The NBA has a rule requiring players to stand for the anthem since 1981, but Commissioner Adam Silver said he wouldn't be enforcing it, allowing for peaceful demonstrations. Teammates supported the decision, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because Isaac had yet to discuss his decision publicly.

Isaac also spoke about National Basketball Association players using their platforms to send a message, but he said it should be done "in a balanced way".
