Coronavirus infected hundreds of children at U.S. summer camp

"These findings demonstrate that SARS-CoV-2 spread efficiently in a youth-centric overnight setting, resulting in high attack rates among persons in all age groups, despite efforts by camp officials to implement most recommended strategies to prevent transmission", the research study authors composed. Campers engaged in "a variety of indoor and outdoor activities", including "daily vigorous singing and cheering", they said.

President Trump's repeated statements that children are "almost immune" to COVID-19 got a fact check from state and federal public health investigators examining an outbreak at a Georgia summer camp. "In preparing for camp, we collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and the American Camp Association [and] followed the safety guidelines and protocols of the executive order from the State of Georgia".

More than 260 staff and campers tested positive for the coronavirus, out of a total 597 people who were at the camp sometime between when it opened and when it closed in mid-June. However, the camp did not require the 600 campers to wear masks, only the staff.

Interestingly, a greater portion of the youngest kids evaluated favorable: 51% amongst those age 6-10 years, 44% amongst those age 11-17 years, and 33% amongst those aged 18-21 years evaluated favorable.

Camp officers started sending campers household on June 24 and shut the camp on the 27th.

Although the CDC did not identify the camp, CBS affiliate WGCL reported on an outbreak at a Georgia camp in June.

Oil prices jump on USA inventory drop
U.S. crude oil production plummeted in May, falling a record 2 million barrels per day to 10 million bpd, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said in a monthly report on Friday.

"Asymptomatic infection was common and potentially contributed to undetected transmission, as has been previously reported", the CDC report stated. Campers were a median age of 12, and 53% were girls, while staff members were a median age of 17, and 59% were girls.

A teen counselor left the camp after developing chills on June 23.

By contrast, 19% of Diamond Princess cruise ship passengers tested positive for COVID-19 in February and March.

Authors of the report noted the review was limited by its knowledge set, which didn't contain all the campers and thus could be lacking more similar situations.

The agency notes the attack rates could be underestimated because some cases may have been missed or the test results not reported.

The CDC said in its press release that the proper use of face masks, along with rigorous cleaning and social distancing, can help prevent the spread of the virus. Not surprisingly, they found attack rates increased with increased time spent at the camp. Knowledge about indications was obtainable for only 136 sufferers: About a quarter, or 36 folks, described no signs and symptoms A hundred youngsters and employees (74 %) reported indications, together with fever (65 percent), headache (61 per cent) and sore throat (46 p.c).
