Apple iPhone 12 5G is NOT delayed

Apple confirms its new iPhones will be delayed by a 'few weeks'

However, multiple reports over the past few months have suggested that the pandemic will affect smartphone production for a number of companies, Apple included. Many technology news websites were quick to say that Apple iPhone 12 was "delayed".

In an interview with Reuters, CEO Tim Cook said that after disruptions in April, sales began to pick back up in May and June, helped by what he called a "strong" launch for the US$399 iPhone SE introduced in April. "We attribute this increase in demand to several interactive causes, including a strong iPhone SE launch, continued economic stimulus, and potentially some benefit from shelter-in-place restrictions lifting around the world", he explained.

Yes, you read that correctly: stimulus packages.

Apple Inc. reported quarterly revenue that crushed Wall Street forecasts after locked down consumers snapped up new iPhones, iPads and Mac computers to stay connected during the pandemic. Customers appear to be ditching their current devices for the new iPhone SE, in particular. But the region returned to growth in the June quarter and registered $9.3 billion in revenue, up 2% year over year.

The development will see Apple catch up to its Android-based rivals, whose latest offerings have all featured 5G capable handsets.

Virus-hit Singapore Airlines Suffers $800 Mln Q1 Loss
In a press release, the group projected capacity levels to increase to 7% of pre-COVID numbers by the end of the second quarter. Singapore Airlines scaled back its network to just 14 cities in the quarter, before increasing it to 24 by the end of June.

Apple very rarely delays anything, and as Techradar points out, the only times it's happened so far have been due to supply chain issues (or so they said - we can't imagine Apple owning up to anything ever).

As has become the norm, Apple's services and wearables divisions performed strongly.

On Wednesday, Cook faced questions from USA lawmakers about Apple's practices related to the store, which have come under fire from independent app developers who say its rules and unpredictable approval process put them at a disadvantage against the iPhone maker.

More than 100 Apple retail stores in the US have had to shut again due to the pandemic.

All regions saw sales increases in the quarter, while Japan recorded the highest growth with almost $5 billion in total sales, jumping 22% from a year earlier. There were also minor updates to the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, and new accessories like an iPad Pro keyboard with trackpad. After all, it is unlikely that many consumers are clamoring for a new phone when they are self-quarantining and working from home anyway. Apple's Others category, which includes AirPods and the Apple Watch, grew over 16 percent from the same quarter in 2019.
