Rapper Kanye West announces United States presidential bid on Twitter

Kim Kardashian Kanye West

"I am running for president of the United States", he wrote, followed by the hashtag "2020VISION" and the emblem of an American flag.

Given the way 2020 has gone so far, Kanye West's proclamation on American Independence Day should come as no surprise.

Apropos of nothing immediately apparent other than the national holiday, Kanye West took to social media Saturday night to announce that he is running for president... in 2020.

With the USA election just four months away, West has already passed plenty of State filing deadlines and primary elections.

West has previously backed Trump after he was elected as President in 2016 and he's worn red "Make America Great Again" baseball caps that Trump supporters have made famous.

"When I run for President in 2024", West vowed last November.

Back in November a year ago, he had hinted at his political inclinations as he began his speech at Fast Company's Innovation Festival, saying: "When I run for President in 2024", leading to the crowd breaking into laughter.

Apple pressing suppliers to speed up "iPhone 12" production and cut delays
Apple's hardware team, having returned to work in June, has been attempting to expedite the final configuration of the new iPhone. Supply chain estimates previously tipped Apple's 5G iPhone, likely to be called iPhone 12, to ship between 30-40 million units.

"What y'all laughing at?"

SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted a response to the announcement, saying he would back West in his quest for the White House. I'm not going to run, I'm going to walk.

West has frequently supported President Trump and suggested in April that he was going to vote for him this fall.

West added: "What I'm saying is, when y'all read the headlines, 'Kanye's insane, ' this and that, this and that, it's like one in three African-Americans are in jail and all of the celebrities are in jail also because they can't say nothing [sic]!"

It appears his reality TV star wife Kim Kardashian West could see herself as America's first lady, retweeting the post.

At one meeting in October 2018, West delivered a rambling, profanity-laden speech in which he discussed alternative universes and his diagnosis of bipolar disorder, which he said was actually sleep deprivation.
