Pence urges people to wear masks as U.S. cases surge

"If your neighborhood officers in session with the point out are directing you to dress in a mask, we really encourage everyone to dress in a mask in the affected locations and where by you won't be able to sustain social distancing, putting on a mask is just a fantastic thought and it will, we know, from knowledge, will gradual the unfold of the coronavirus", Pence mentioned at a briefing at the College of Texas Southwestern Professional medical Center in Dallas on Sunday.

A White House statement released about a later briefing with Abbott said the White House Coronavirus Task Force had been working with the Texas administration from the start of the pandemic.

Pence said the government will make sure the Texas healthcare system have appropriate amount of resources, supplies, and personnel.

Pence went on by praising Texas' efforts to restart its economy last month, but then he acknowledged once again that the state has seen a major jump in coronavirus cases recently.

How you can view the stunning Eta Aquariid meteor shower tonight
He said: "It's going to be a good time to get out there and there's a window between about 5am and 5.30am when there's no moon". The point in the sky from which the shower appears to come from - also known at the radiant - is the constellation Aquarius .

Last week, Abbott told people to stay home if possible as the number of new coronavirus cases in the state reached record highs. In the past 16 days, hospitalizations also increased, experiencing new highs every day. The rate, which is presented as a seven-day average, reached 13.23 percent on Friday, nearly as high as its highest record in mid-April of 13.86 percent.

Citing an infection rate over 10%, Abbott ordered bars and rafting and tubing businesses to shut down Friday. The decision lapsed on April 30 and was not renewed. Retail stores, restaurants, movies, and shopping centres were allowed to reopen with limited capacity on May 1, and larger entertainment venues were allowed to reopen at 50% capacity on June 12. Wearing a mask can protect people 75 percent more than without a mask. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) has since pressed pause on some parts of the state's reopening plan, including closing bars in the state. But President Trump and many Republicans have declined to wear masks in public, and Pence has only done so sparingly. Where you can't maintain social distancing, wearing a mask is just a good idea. It also enforced one of the shortest lockdown orders in the US.

"President Trump and I believe that taking proper steps, as we've created screening at recent events, and giving people the very best counsel that we have, we still want to give people the freedom to participate in the political process, and we respect that".
