National Football League fines Patriots, takes away draft pick for sideline filming

Bill Belichick

The illegal filming procedure took place during a December 8 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

The team was stripped a third-round draft pick for 2021 and fined $1.1 million.

Senior officials with the Patriots will also have required training on league operation and game policies, Reiss reports.

The Patriots had not issued a statement as of Monday morning about the penalties, though a spokesperson confirmed to ESPN that the team would not appeal.

The Patriots admitted to wrongdoing at the time, but they also said the videographers were filming a team series called "Do Your Job" and were unaware of the infraction.

Google Photos Turns Off Backups for Third-Party Services
As a result, Google announced today that it is limiting what Google Photos will automatically back up on your Android device. Don't fret, though; if you're clever, you can reenable the auto-backup option for all of your device's photo folders.

Previously, New England was fined $250,000 and lost a first-round draft pick in 2007 for violating National Football League rules against using video to steal signals in a scandal dubbed "Spygate".

"The sole objective of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road", the Patriots' statement said. "There was no intention of using footage for any other objective". Then, comes the news the team is being penalized for its episode of filming of the Bengals' sideline in the 2019 season.

"The sole goal of the filming was to provide an illustration of an advance scout at work on the road", a Patriots statement said at the time.

Coach Bill Belichick has said he was not aware of the incident prior to the investigation.

"I personally have never viewed any video footage at all, anything that those production people have done, other than what's shown on public television or something like that", Belichick said in December.
