European Union loosens travel ban, but USA still shut out

EU delays decision on external border reopening

Most travelers from the United States will be barred from entering the European Union after it reopens its borders Wednesday because the coronavirus is still far too prevalent in the U.S., European officials announced Tuesday.

Why US has been left off the list The United States, despite having a large number of its citizens who travel to Europe, has been left off the EU's latest travel list due to the high number of COVID-19 cases being reported there. Other elements also weight in heavily, such as whether the country has lifted travel restrictions on the EU.

It acts as a recommendation to European Union members, meaning they could potentially set restrictions on those entering from the 14 nations and will nearly certainly not allow access to travellers from other countries.

Earlier efforts to reopen the borders fell short, especially in the Schengen area, which serves as a window to the 26 countries, for most countries are only providing minimal access to certain visitors.

When EU guidelines were released a few weeks ago officials said the list would take into account the infection rate in countries concerned.

As before, visitors from states not on the list can enter the European Union under certain conditions, including European Union citizens and their family members who live outside the bloc.

The 27 member states are on Tuesday voting on a list of 14 proposed countries.

Leroy Sane set to leave Man City for Bayern Munich
Manchester City are interested in Bayern Munich winger Coman and midfielder Thiago, according to French outlet Foot Mercato . The Germany global made his first Premier League appearance of the season as a substitute against Burnley last week.

The US has not only the highest number of reported coronavirus infections of any nation, now 2,590,582, but also the highest number of deaths, at, 126,141, according to the latest data from Johns Hopkins University.

Travelers from other big countries like Russia, Brazil and India will also miss out.

However, most Americans have been refused entry for at least another two weeks due to soaring coronavirus infections in the US, according to the Associated Press. These include France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands.

The 15 countries that did make the list are: Algeria, Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, Montenegro, Morocco, New Zealand, Rwanda, Serbia, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia and Uruguay.

"Travel restrictions may be totally or partially lifted or reintroduced for a specific third country already listed according to changes in some of the conditions and, as a effect, in the assessment of the epidemiological situation".

Countries like Germany and Spain, horrified by the devastation of COVID-19, wanted to play it safe.

In March, President Donald Trump suspended all people from Europe´s ID check-free travel zone from entering the US, making it unlikely now that USA citizens would qualify to enter the EU.
