Eight states including California, Georgia added to NY governor's quarantine order

United Airlines takes precautions to keep customers employees safe during the coronavirus pandemic

The eight states that added to the coronavirus watch list are California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Tennessee.

Travelers from eight additional states will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival to New York, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday.

The tri-state travel advisory applies to any state that has a new daily positive test rate for COVID-19 higher than 10 per 100,000 residents or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average.

Later in the day, as has been the case since the start of the COVID-19 quarantine, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy followed the lead of Cuomo and New York State, adding those states to his own quarantine. Oklahoma has a origin-specific rule similar to the NY region rule, which also lists California as a high-risk state, triggering quarantine orders.

European Union loosens travel ban, but USA still shut out
Other elements also weight in heavily, such as whether the country has lifted travel restrictions on the EU. Countries like Germany and Spain, horrified by the devastation of COVID-19, wanted to play it safe.

In addition to out-of-state visitors, the advisory covers CT residents who are returning from a listed state.

In her press conference today, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds announced the positive test rate in Iowa was just over five percent during yesterday's testing.

He explained last week that any visitors found violating self-quarantine rules would be subject to a judicial order and self-funded mandatory quarantine, as well as potential fines of $2,000 for a first violation and $5,000 for a second.

In late March, the federal government issued similar guidelines for New York, New Jersey and CT residents, asking that they avoid non-essential travel and self-quarantine for 14 days if travel was necessary.
