Donald Trump hit with bleak forecast over new U.S. coronavirus numbers

Arena Cinelounge's reopening will have to wait

"If you look at what's going on and just look at some of the film clips that you've seen of people congregating, often without masks, of being in crowds and jumping over and avoiding, and not paying attention to the guidelines that we very carefully put out we're going to continue to be in a lot of trouble and there's going to be a lot of hurt if that does not stop", Fauci said.

SOURCES: June 30, 2020, U.S. Senate hearing testimony: Anthony Fauci, MD, director, U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Stephen Hahn, MD, commissioner, U.S. Food and Drug Administration; statement, Mark McClellan, MD, PhD, former commissioner, U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and director, Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy, Durham N.C.

A top United States health expert warned Congress on Tuesday that new coronavirus cases could more than double to 100,000 per day if authorities and the public fail to take steps to suppress the COVID-19 pandemic.

Graffiti depicting US President Trump, right, and China's President Xi Jinping kissing each other with face masks, displayed at a wall in Berlin, Germany.

"Unfortunately, this simple life-saving practice has become part of the political debate that says if you're for Trump, you don't wear a mask, if you're against Trump, you do", Alexander said.

"While this public health crisis rages across the country, we've seen a leadership crisis raging in the White House, as the president proves times after time he cares less about how this pandemic is impacting families and communities and more about how it makes him look", Murray said.

At Tuesday's hearing, Fauci initially declined to directly answer a question by Sen. CDC Director Robert Redfield told young people specifically that they are not exempt from wearing a mask.

Province increases outdoor gathering limit to 200
Deena Hinshaw, Alberta's chief medical officer of health, provided her latest COVID-19 update at a news conference on Tuesday. All public health measures remain in place, however, including physical distancing between people of different households.

"I'm very concerned and I'm not satisfied with what's going on, because we're going in the wrong direction", he testified to a Senate panel.

Fauci and other health experts were on Capitol Hill on Tuesday to offer their thoughts on reopening schools in the fall and other businesses that have not yet opened.

"There's no doubt that wearing masks protects you", Fauci said.

Lawmakers also pressed for what Sen Patty Murray of Washington, the committee's top Democrat, called a national vaccine plan - to be sure the race for the COVID-19 vaccine ends with shots that really are safe, truly protect and are available to all Americans who want, one. The president has plenty of admirers.

He said there was no guarantee of having vaccine to prevent infection soon, but that early data had left scientists "cautiously optimistic" for 2021.

"Public confidence in vaccines is so important", Redfield said. "We have an obligation to use all of our scientific knowledge, regulatory framework to ensure that any vaccine that comes before us, whether for authorization or approval, meets our stringent standards for safety and effectiveness".

During the conference, he said about half of all new infections are located in four states. More than 129,000 people have died in the US from the virus and approximately 2.68 million cases have been reported.
