China puts half a million into lockdown amid fresh outbreak fears

China records more COVID-19 cases as another phase of outbreak continues

China has imposed a new strict covid-19 lockdown as new cases spike in Beijing and nearby provinces.

In the past 24 hours, the Chinese capital reported 14 new cases of the Coronavirus, taking the total since the mid-June outbreak in a food market to 311.

China put 400,000 residents of a northern county under lockdown over the weekend after at least a dozen coronavirus cases associated with the Beijing outbreak were reported there.

Some of the strict measures that have been imposed to control the virus spread include that only one person will be allowed out to go buy necessities such as medicines and food and only once a day can the person go out.

After China largely brought the virus under control, hundreds have been infected in Beijing and cases have emerged in neighbouring Hebei province in recent weeks.

Since June 11 when Beijing reported its first case in the current outbreak, it checked the health of nearly eight million people, 35.7% of its population; and proposes to increase the figure with a reduction in the cost of the tests and fitting out more sites to carry them out.

Fauci Makes Dire Forecast 'If This Doesn't Turn Around'
The hearing comes as several states struggle to contain the virus as they start to reopen amid a nationwide jump in case counts. He noted that remdesivir, an antiviral medication, has shown a reduction in hospitalization days among COVID-19 patients.

Almost a third of the cases so far have been linked to a beef and mutton section in the market, where workers are being quarantined for a month, city officials said yesterday.

Over 2,100 people from Anxin county do seafood-related business in Xinfadi, state media reported, citing municipal government officials. Workers there are being made to quarantine for a month, city officials said Sunday.

China has said it can test as many as 3.8 million samples daily.

Students, front-line medical staff, and workers in the transportation, banking, supermarkets, express deliveries and beauty salon industries will also be tested.

Other non-public medical institutions are allowed to set their testing prices according to the market, but they must follow national and municipal regulations, Du said.

China, where the COVID-19 virus is known to have begun in its Wuhan state, locked Anxin county which is estimated to be 150 kilometers from the capital Beijing to contain a fresh spread of the deadly virus on 28 June 2020.
