NASA releases stunning 10-year time-lapse of the Sun

To create the timelapse, NASA edited down the 425 million high-resolution images captured with its SDO by choosing one photo taken every hour from the satellite.

NASA's video condenses the past decade into a 61-minute-long video, with each second representing approximately one day.

Now a scintillating new time-lapse video of one decade in the life of the Sun in sixty minutes was just released by NASA and it's a mesmerizing display of the star's mercurial stirrings and enormous elemental power. Since launching in February 2010, the NASA probe has documented the Sun with daily high-resolution photography.

The vigilant SDO has now been watching the Sun non-stop for over a full decade.

The Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) instrument, for instance, takes a snapshot in 10 different wavelengths of light every 12 seconds.

Cam Newton's Patriots contract worth this much if star QB hits incentives
Newton was sacked six times and threw one interception with no touchdown passes, finishing the contest with a 55.4 passer rating. In our game-by-game predictions , we pegged Los Angeles to come out victorious in their bout against the Patriots.

The 10-year time-lapse showcases photos that were taken at a wavelength of 17.1 nanometers, which is an extreme ultraviolet wavelength that reveals the Sun's outermost atmospheric layer, the corona.

According to the statement, the video shows the rise and fall in an activity that occurs as part of the Sun's 11-year solar cycle and notable events, like transiting planets and eruptions.

The music used in the time-lapse was composed by musician Lars Leonhard.

Even though the SDO has had kept its eyes open constantly, it hasn't been able to keep the Sun in its line of sight constantly. "The dark frames in the video are caused by Earth or the Moon eclipsing SDO as they pass between the spacecraft and the Sun".

The SDO mission of NASA was launched in the year 2010 to understand the origin of Sun's energy, how the inside of the Sun works, and how energy is stored and released in the Sun's atmosphere. At some moments in the video the sun moves off centre, this is due to the SDO calibrating its instruments.
