Canada has had a "relatively low" overall COVID-19 mortality rate compared to other OECD countries.

The report's authors stressed the different testing and reporting standards across countries, as well as different definitions of long-term care homes, making direct comparisons hard.

However, the findings point to the vulnerability of long-term care residents to outbreaks like the coronavirus, and how better to prepare and respond to a possible second wave.

Canada also ranks last behind Spain (66 percent), Israel and Norway (58 percent), Ireland (56 percent), Belgium (50 percent), France (48 percent) and the United States (31 percent).

In addition, COVID-19 cases are often under-reported and in the case of Italy, data was available from only 52 per cent of the nursing homes operating in the country. More than 8,400 Canadians had died of COVID-19 as of June 24.

At the time the study was conducted, no deaths in long-term care facilities had been reported in Newfoundland and Labrador, Prince Edward Island and the territories. Two LTC residents have since died in New Brunswick.

France's former prime minister Francois Fillon and his wife guilty of fraud
She said working that way allowed her to have a flexible schedule and raise their five children in the Fillons' countryside manor. Fillon insists he was set up for "political assassination" by his rivals and was the victim of a biased judiciary.

"Which means it makes it more hard for all of us to support our older Canadians with equal and consistent access to the services that are necessary, based on their care needs at their age".

The prime minister was referring to the announcement Thursday that the federal government had outsourced the administration of the new Canada Student Service Grant (CSSG) to WE charity.

"(For) individual provinces and territories, it is about implementation of those national, federally set benchmarks and standards".

Trudeau says Ottawa is committed to working with the premiers on supporting long-term care centres whether it's by bringing in national standards, by extra funding, or by looking at the Canada Health Act.

The CFS was critical of the Federal Government's treatment of global students-who make up 30 per cent of post-secondary students in Canada-due to the fact they have been deemed ineligible for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit, the Canada Summer Jobs program, and the Canada Student Service Grant.
