NBA to allow players to put social justice statements on jerseys

Oklahoma City guard Chris Paul, president of the National Basketball Players Association, said the union and the league are now collaborating on the initiative.

The NBA is planning to allow players to replace the last names on their jersey with statements about social justice, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. "With these jerseys, it doesn't go away".

It's a fairly similar idea to what Conrad Burry had shared with us earlier this week, but instead of entirely new jerseys for the entire team as Conrad had pitched, this message would be worn on the back of the jersey in place of each player's name.

"I was just thinking about how forward-thinking our league is and how passionate the players in our league are about different issues", Paul said. For those players who would rather bring up awareness to cause or charity on their jerseys not connected to social injustice, police brutality or other racial issues, Paul said will be accepted as well.

Sacha Baron Cohen trolls far-right event disguised as bluegrass singer
The councilman also claimed the crowd turned on Cohen and security whisked him away in a waiting ambulance. Inject him with the Wuhan flu. "Inject them with the Wuhan flu or chop 'em up like the Saudis do".

NBPA President Chris Paul said the players in Orlando plan to make good use of the attention they anticipate receiving. It also gives guys a chance to shine a light on something they are passionate about. Adam Silver has spoken up and said the league "has work to do" in order to address this.

ESPN's Marc Spears spoke with Paul about the fact that players will be permitted to express themselves in such a manner.

Paul and his fellow athletes in the National Basketball Association and other sports have taken part in Black Lives Matter marches after Floyd's death, and Paul acknowledged that some players could wear the names of those who have been killed, if they get approval from their families.

"At marches they are saying, 'Say his name ... You're going to continue to hear us and see us".
