The US area company NASA has launched a time-lapse video recording the 10-year motion of the Sun. This hypnotic composite video celebrates the tenth anniversary of the SDO probe and all its myriad achivements in understanding the solar variations that affect and transform life on Earth. From its orbit in space around the Earth, SDO has gathered 425 million high-resolution images of the Sun, amassing 20 million gigabytes of data over the past 10 years. The collected data allowed us to obtain some new information about the main star of the Solar system.

In the shared film by NASA, the time-lapse of the Sun showed the movement of the Sun while experiencing changes in the solar movement.

The footage shows the activity of rise and fall taking place on the Sun as a part of it's 11-year solar cycle.

Since 2010, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) has diligently observed our warming star and delivered back to its mission control ground team a wealth of astonishing images of the shining object in never-seen detail.

Firstly, the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) is a battery of four telescopes created to photograph the Sun's surface and atmosphere.

However, Interpol clarified that its constitution prevents them from "undertaking any intervention or activities of a political, military, religious or racial character".

The video has been watched by hundreds of thousands of people on YouTube, Twitter and other social media platforms.

Lastly, the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) maps solar magnetic fields and "peers" beneath the Sun's opaque surface using a technique called "helioseismology".

NASA has spent more than a decade looking at the Sun, and it's paid off. One image from each hour of SDO observations was used to compile the marathon 61-minute video.

Even though the SDO kept an "unblinking eye" on the Sun, some moments was missed. A lengthier blackout in 2016 was prompted by a short term challenge with the AIA instrument that was efficiently settled following a week. The video also has background music titled Solar Observer.

The Sun also appears off-centre in a few images as the SDO was calibrating its instruments at the time.
