Full moon to light up the night sky on Fourth of July

Lunar Eclipse July 2020 When where and how to watch this unique phenomenon

Unlike a full lunar or solar eclipse, the visual effect of a penumbral eclipse is usually so minimal, it can be hard to notice.

Will the penumbral lunar eclipse be visible in India?

While the eclipse, unfortunately, won't be seen from India, it will be seen from parts of North, South America and Africa.

In January past year, China made history when their lunar probe comprising Chang'e 4 moon lander and its rover Yutu 2 landed on the Von Karman Crater in the South Pole-Aitken Basin of the moon.

The penumbral lunar eclipse on July 5 won't be visible in India.

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the full Buck Moon will rise after sunset on Saturday evening, before reaching peak illumination at 12:44 a.m. on Sunday, July 5.

Beyoncé To Release "Black Is King" Visual Album On Disney+
The singer, 38, wrote, directed and produced the film, Black Is King , which will be available on Disney + next month. Black Is King will premiere on July 31 through Disney +.

This cosmic event is of three kinds: total, partial, and penumbral.

The first contact with the penumbra will be at 8.30 am and the maximum impact of the eclipse would be at 9.59 am. Only a lighter outer shadow of the Earth - the penumbra - will fall on the moon. It happens on a full moon night. Since the shadow falling on the Moon's surface is faint, the moon appears to be in its full shape and the penumbral lunar eclipse is taken as the regular full moon.

What is the Buck Moon?

The last contact with the penumbra would be at 11.21 am.

Some also say that during this phase of the lunar cycle in July, a buck's antlers are in full growth mode in some regions of the world and hence, it felt fitting to refer to the sighting as full buck moon. According to historical beliefs, Native Americans used to refer to a full moon sighting as "buck moon". It also has been known as the Full Thunder Moon for its timing during a period of the year when thunderstorms occur frequently.
