Time has come to hold police accountable Sharpton

Thousands of Americans carrying placards reading "black lives matter" and raising slogans such as "no justice, no peace" took to the streets in many U.S. cities, demonstrating peacefully against the killing of unarmed African-American George Floyd by a white police officer in Minneapolis on May 25.

Memorial tributes to Floyd in Minneapolis, where he was killed on May 25, and in New York City's borough of Brooklyn, a major flashpoint for demonstrations stirred by his death, came as protesters returned to the streets of several USA cities for a 10th straight day, including Atlanta, Washington, Denver, Detroit and Los Angeles. He died of a common American criminal justice malfunction.

She held a sign that read: "You're lucky we just want equality and not revenge".

A separate group of protesters congregated near the White House, where construction workers were seen erecting new concrete barriers and fences around the presidential residence.

George Floyd's autopsy showed, a positive result for coronavirus, but the infection was not listed as a factor in his death.

The massive crowd made the trek from Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, over the bridge and to Foley Square in Lower Manhattan, erupting into chants of "Say his name: George Floyd" and "No justice". He added: "Get your knee off of our necks!"

He also asked mourners to stand in silence for eight minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time Floyd lay pinned to the pavement by the police officer.

While the memorial was invite-only, thousands of people gathered not far from the site it was held, listening intently to the service on loudspeakers.

He and other family members spoke lovingly of Mr Floyd, who was well over six feet tall, which earned him the nickname "Big George".

"He gave to and fed a lot of people". "Power to the people, all of us", he said.

The service also drew the Rev. Jesse Jackson, Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, coincided with a separate outdoor memorial tribute to Floyd in Brooklyn.

Facebook labels state-controlled media posts, will block ads

The day of remembrance capped more than a week of largely peaceful but raucous protests, accompanied by civil unrest that prompted dozens of cities to impose overnight curfews and the mobilization of the National Guard in several states.

Earl Gray said his client, former Officer Thomas Lane, had no choice but to follow the instructions of Derek Chauvin, who has since been charged with second-degree murder in Floyd's May 25 death.

Bail for the three defendants, who made their first court appearance on Thursday, would be lowered to 750,000 US dollars if they agreed to certain conditions, including forfeiting any personal firearms.

"Please, please, please, I can't breathe", Mr Floyd begged in one video caught by a bystander. They face up to 40 years in prison if convicted.

Protestors chanted "Black Lives Matter", "No Justice, No Peace" and "Hands Up, Don't Shoot".

He urged the crowd to continue to seek justice but to avoid violence, saying, "My brother wasn't about that". Police records indicate that while the men were rookies, they had more experience than a handful of days on the force.

"We have too much to change in this city and this country", the mayor said.

"At the end of the day, my brother's gone, but the Floyd name lives on".

Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee, who represents Floyd's native Houston and attended the service, said that she and other lawmakers on Thursday introduced police accountability legislation named after Floyd. A funeral was planned for Tuesday.

The memorial included scripture, inspiring messages of hope even in the wake of social injustice, sweet memories of the late Floyd from his family, and uplifting gospel music performed in his honor.
