Twitter CEO: We'll Continue to Fact-Check Trump's Misleading Tweets on Voting

Executive Order draft reveals Trump's plan for revenge against Twitter and other platforms

Trump is set to introduce an executive order on Thursday that he promises will bring "fairness" to social media platforms like Twitter.

Efforts to enact vote-by-mail systems or at least avoid voting in person amid the pandemic have often been opposed by the GOP: Wisconsites were forced to vote in person in April after Republicans fought Gov.

After being fact-checked by Twitter on his assertion that mail-in voting leads to fraud, President Donald Trump doubled down on his stance and directed his anger right at Twitter.

The label is an icon with an exclamation point, and was imposed on two tweets Trump posted Tuesday morning falsely claiming that "mail-in ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent" and would result in "a rigged election".

According to a Twitter spokesperson, the tweets "contain potentially misleading information about voting processes and have been labeled to provide additional context around mail-in ballots". However, fact-checkers say there is no evidence that mail-in ballots are linked to voter fraud.

Trump's allies are also blasting Twitter, claiming the fact-checking shows the social media company has a bias against conservatives.

Trump ranted against Twitter's decision in a series of tweets earlier this week, accusing the company of "interfering in the 2020 Presidential Election" and "completely stifling FREE SPEECH".

As you might imagine, Twitter's fact-checking of the president has ignited a political firestorm.

What he's saying: "If Twitter were not honorable, if you're going to have a guy like [Yoel Roth, Twitter's head of site integrity] being your judge and jury, I think just shut it down as far as I'm concerned".

Timothy Klausutis, widower of Lori Klausutis, has written to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey claiming the president has violated the social media company's terms of service and "has taken something that does not belong to him-the memory of my dead wife-and perverted it for perceived political gain". The executive order will ask the FCC to regulate Section 230, which is part of a 1996 law called the Communications Decency Act.
