Trump threatens to move RNC without assurances from governor

Then-candidate Trump speaking at the 2016 Republican National Convention

North Carolina Congressman Richard Hudson told Newsmax TV on Tuesday he was confident the Republican National Convention will be held as scheduled in Charlotte in August as the state emerges from restrictions imposed by Gov. Roy Cooper to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry has been quick to try and capitalize on the possibility of the August Republican National Convention's being moved out of North Carolina.

Cooper told reporters Tuesday he was not surprised by the President's tweet and said he and his health officials are still waiting for health plans from Republican officials. The governor listed four major Florida cities he said could easily handle the convention. Cooper said health officials will be in contact with the RNC organizers again "later this week and next week" as they work to hammer down the contingency plans.

She said that while she "doesn't envy" Cooper or local officials on their decision-making, she also doesn't want friction over the convention to turn into a rallying cry for Democratic donors. These moves are likely to increase pressure on a state that has only just begun a phase to reopen that allows indoor gatherings of up to 10 people at a time.

If Charlotte ends up losing the presidential convention, the fallout would probably fall along party lines, said Andy Taylor, a political science professor at N.C. State University. "If not, we will be reluctantly find, with all of the jobs and economic development it brings, another Republican National Convention site".

Brian Kemp, the Republican governor of Georgia, tweeted that he hopes Trump would consider the Peach State as a host.

Tesla reduces price of almost every auto by $2,000 or more
Tesla's cheapest auto , the Model 3 sedan, had $2,000 knocked off of its original price tag and now retails for $37,990. But the biggest cuts were made to Tesla's more expensive, luxury vehicles, the Model S sedan and the Model X SUV.

It's not clear what phase the state will be in come August 24, when the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin. "And we have to know before we spend millions and millions of dollars on an arena to make it magnificent for the convention".

Liz Harrington, the Republican National Committee's national spokesperson, said on May 26 that it takes months to plan the convention, and staff members are already on the ground in Charlotte.

"I think it will be good for the people of Florida", DeSantis said.

"With world-class facilities, restaurants, hotels, and workforce, Georgia would be honored to safely host the Republican National Convention", Kemp tweeted. Florida, too, wants a bite at the apple. "Every state we talk to is saying, 'We want to nominate the president here.' They're so excited to have that", she claimed. But she said she hopes that issues can be resolved so the event can go forward in North Carolina.

"Ultimately, the health and safety of our convention attendees and the people of Milwaukee is our top priority".

Mr. Kemp and Mr. DeSantis have been at the forefront of the Republican push to reopen states during the coronavirus pandemic, scoring them points with Republican activists and scorn from Democrats.

"The status of COVID-19 infections in our state and in the Charlotte area continues to rapidly evolve, thus, it will be important to have several scenarios planned that can be deployed depending on the public health situation", Cohen wrote.
