Richard Herd, Mr. Wilhelm on 'Seinfeld', dead at 87

Herd recurred throughout several seasons of the sitcom as Mr. Wilhelm, supervisor to Jason Alexander's George Costanza during his time as an employee of the New York Yankees.

'It was fun. It was very inviting, ' he shared with The Hollywood Reporter.

Born in Boston in 1932, Herd credited his mother with sparking an interest in the arts.

'And they all threw their scripts at me.

Other TV shows he appeared on were TJ Hooker and Star Trek.

He was on Quantum Leap, Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, NYPD Blue, M*A*S*H, The Rockford Files, The Feather and Father Gang, Golden Girls, Starsky & Hutch.

Richard Herd is an actor that many television viewers will remember for his roles in Star Trek and Seinfeld, among many others on both the big screen and the small.

Richard went on to star in popular nighttime soaps such as Dallas, Dynasty and Falcon's Crest.

Herd also starred in the original "V" miniseries in 1983 as John, the leader of the alien Visitors who come to occupy Earth.

Richard played J. Howard Marshall in The Anna Nicole Smith Story in 2007.

Herd was also known for movie roles in All the President's Men, alongside Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman, The China Syndrome with Jane Fonda, Jack Lemmon, and Michael Douglas, and in Jordan Peele's 2017 horror film Get Out. After laying the foundation of his career in the theater, he made his feature film debut alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1970's Hercules in NY.

Herd is survived by his wife of forty years, Patricia Crowder Herd, as well as a daughter Erica, son Rick, and stepdaughter, Alicia.
