With 13 new cases, Jharkhand's tally reached 303. On Friday, 660 new cases had been reported which has been the largest spike. It put the number of active cases at 63,624 and recoveries at over 45,000.

Maharashtra recorded 2,608 new coronavirus cases and 60 deaths on Saturday, taking its total count of cases to 47,190 and the death toll to 1,577.

According to data compiled from official state and union territory government statistics, India has reported 1,16,820 cases and 3,582 deaths (including co-morbid fatalities). More than 338,172 people have died due to the COVID-19 infection.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday announced yet another set of nine measures to smoothen the flow of finance and preserve financial stability in the turbulent and uncertain times ushered in by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cases across the world are now at 52,21,172 with 3,38,183 deaths (according to the map by Johns Hopkins) as on May 23. More than 19 lakh people have recovered so far.

The worst-hit state continued to be Maharashtra with 44,582 cases, 1,517 people deaths while 12,583 people have recovered.

"If the lockdown is lifted on May 30, then we will have peak around mid-July because if you take three incubations period, which is one-and-half months, that will be enough for you to know how the disease spreads when nothing is controlled", Giridhara R Babu, Professor and Head of Life Course Epidemiology at the Public Health Foundation of India, told PTI. A total of 138 new cases were reported in the state on May 22.
